It has always baffled me, especially in the real estate world, why buyers and sellers would ever choose an out-of-town real estate agent.  Some goods and services do warrant seeking expertise and products elsewhere.  For example, you might buy a car elsewhere, rather than locally, because you may have more selection or get a better deal on the product you want in a larger market.  You may choose to stay with your long-time, out-of-region Dentist or Doctor rather than seek out a local one, simply as a matter of trust and convenience, if they are not located too far from where you currently live.

However, you probably would not seek lawyers, accountants, or other professionals if your business is located here, because local service providers have insider knowledge on how to get things done locally.  We, for example, would not contract recruiting firms from the United States to recruit for us here in Waterloo Region, even though we constantly get requests to do so.  After all, what do they know about our company and about Waterloo Region?  In the same vein, why on earth would anyone choose anybody but a local Real Estate Agent to help them in Waterloo Region? 

Expertise resides in the local market.

  2. Vested interest.  Your purchase or sale affects the regional market where local realtors live and work.  Simply put, they care more about you because their success is tied to their performance.  They want to do better.
  3. Home-town pride.  Along the same lines as vested interest, they have a pride in the region, their city, and their neighbourhood.  Can the same be said with an out-of-town Agent?
  4. Local Economy.  All monies earned or spent STAYS IN THE LOCAL ECONOMY, promoting our community and other business and sustaining jobs, in turn supporting your family/friends/neighbours/coworkers to live and thrive here.
