Welcome to 2025! So, what’s going to be different?
There are typically two ways that folks approach the New Year. One is to see it as a new beginning, a fresh start, an opportunity to be “resolved” or resolute in our determination to make this the best year ever! The other viewpoint is more of a “there is nowhere to go but up after last year’s dumpster fire” kind of vibe.
Perhaps, there is a third perspective, a new attitude for a new year. Just who are we and who do we want to be? Do we live in the past, where we measure everything by what we have accomplished? Of course, we must account for past lessons learned, no matter how painful or arduous they were, because failing is the great teacher of all time. Or do we live in the future, constantly looking for the next objective after the target we hope to achieve after the goal we’re trying to accomplish now. Goal setting is crucial to success, providing motivation, accountability and a sense of achievement, but constantly focussing on Future You might mean that you’re continually chasing the “next big thing”. How about we just live in the present, being mindful of our current place in the universe, seeking to inspire others in the here and now. This may sound like hokum, but think for just a moment, how you would feel if your only concern was to be a better human. Maybe we would just be healthier. Maybe we spend time on the relationships that fill our cup. Maybe we would take that course to improve our net worth and income or better our prospects at work. Maybe we would stop that bad habit we have because stopping makes us feel better about ourselves. Maybe we own our successes, regardless of what that looks like to others. Maybe we concentrate on where we are now. Maybe, just maybe, it is time to stop looking so far ahead of ourselves that we miss enjoying our everyday wins.
The new year brings a new promise. Be mindful of the possibilities that await you but also be mindful how great you already are. You are a good ‘humey’.
So, what’s going to be different 2025? Just you.
