Valentine’s Day: Celebrating romance and love of one human for another
What originated as a Christian feast day honoring a martyr named Valentine, through later folk traditions has become a significant cultural, religious and commercial celebration of romance and love in many parts of the world. A day of sweethearts.
However, many are single on this day, and so I thought it best to expand our world and simply say we celebrate the love of one human for another. This day can be more than chocolate and roses if we want it to be. There is the love of a parent for a child, a child for a parent. The love of one’s brother or sister. The love for one’s family, the love for a close friend. The love for one’s family pet.
Love is limitless. Love is compassionate. Love is caring. Love is endless. Love is emotion, love is courage and love is strength. Love is kindness and love never ends.
On this Valentine Day, we humans have permission and freedom to choose who we love, and to love whomever we choose. Make it your mission this day to say the words “I love you” to whomever you want. Your heart will be glad you did.
Happy Valentine’s Day.
