The Final Installment of our Never Ending Story….thank you for coming along on this ride with us.
Although we had already been in the “Business” for some time, I had decided at 46 years old that I would formalize my education and pursue my Real Estate License. This presented a little bit of a challenge… understatement! I was working full time in Management, I had 3 small children, and although continued life long education was a reality with me, I lacked a proper study location. But as I said in Part 2, I took a deep breath, and jumped! Back to classes I went. I would make use of my most sacred of institutions Wilfrid Laurier to study, use my “free time” to attend the courses and do homework, use my last penny to pay for the courses, and pray to God that I could do this! Lunch hours were spent studying and doing homework in my car, a little cold and cramped in the winter! I attended courses in Kitchener, London, and Toronto. And little by little, year by year, made progress towards the goal. Interesting side note here, using the University’s Library to work and study was not a problem, what the hell I had my student card from 1989 if necessary to flash; but things sure had changed. I was more than double the age of the students there, I was the only one with a text book and a highlighter (they all had Laptops), all the work stations had been converted sometime ago with power, and my favorite spot had been converted into an online station! But they assumed I was some “Old Foggy” doing some kind of research, and gracefully let me be, with very little discerning and sarcastic looks.
After two years of hard work, I obtained what I set out to accomplish…my Real Estate License in hand. My Entrepreneurial Journey saw both beginning and end….I was a Realtor with his own business a head of him. The Story doesn’t fully end there of course….I went on to pursue my Brokers License some 8 years later at ripe old age 54 years old. Laurier of course welcome me back with open arms…home is where your heart is…
